New Year, New Plans, New Decade!

It’s the start of a new year and a new decade! I can’t believe how quickly time has flown. The New Year always brings a chance to reflect on the past year and plan for the next. I feel like I am constantly planning though as I am very much a list writer! Whether I actually follow through on my plans is another thing but I am always planning.

2019 had its ups and downs as every year does and I was very busy with Little Luna Creations stuff, a part time job as well as being Chair of my children’s school PTA. By the end of the year, I had stepped down from the PTA and quit my part time job so I could concentrate full time on my business. I have loads of new ideas that I want to develop and I was struggling to fit everything in. Sometimes when things get too much, it’s important to take stock and re-evaluate what you want and where you want to be.

This year, my oldest will go to secondary school! I’m not quite ready for that and I have a lot of work with him in the coming months to get him ready for it. I’m so lucky that I can be around for my children and this is one of my ‘why’s’ for my business. A long time ago, I used to be a teacher and when I had my son, I never went back to it. My son has High Functioning Autism so there are always some challenges we have to face or prepare for and being around for him has always been a priority. I have always tried to have time for me so I have done courses, had hobbies and then attempted part time jobs as well. I say attempted because I have struggled with part time jobs as the mum guilt comes in pretty quickly and something will happen where I wasn’t around to deal with an issue at school and it makes me question where my priorities lie. Looking to this year and the transition that my son will have to go through, I’m pleased I can be there for him (my daughter is pretty happy to have me round too!). I like having something for me though and being able to be creative means everything to me.

So, this year I am going to really go for it as I never have before! I have been working on Little Luna Creations for over 2 years now and having never run a business before, I have realised how hard it is and how many hats I have to wear! I need to make decisions about what to sell. I have always sold my business as “cute gifts and accessories for children” but that’s mainly because everything I have made has been inspired from things I have made my own children. As they grow up and as my business has come on, I have had so many ideas that don’t fit in with that theme so I have dismissed them thinking I need to keep ‘on brand’. So this is definitely an area I want to rethink! I’d love to share more craft projects so I can share more craft skills, I’m looking to design some craft kits and also selling digital embroidery designs on the website this year. I’m also going to put myself more outside of my comfort zone by signing up to more craft markets and getting out there to meet more of my customers.
